Ammonite fossils can be found all over the world on coastlines and river shores. Ammonites were marine cephalopods that lived from the Devonian Period to the end of the Cretaceous, disappearing around 66 million years ago. Because they evolved rapidly and were widely distributed, their fossils serve as important index markers that help geologists date and correlate rock layers.
 
Throughout history, ammonites have carried strong cultural and symbolic significance.
