Red Creek Jasper (also sometimes marketed as “Cherry Creek Jasper”) is a colorful variety of jasper that was discovered in mainland China in 2010 — its name comes from the creek near where it was first mined. As a jasper, it belongs to the broader family of micro-crystalline quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) with iron-oxide and other mineral impurities giving it a mix of earthy shades — often including reds, yellows, greens, and muted tones in attractive, “painting-like” patterns.

Because Red Creek Jasper appeared only recently on the gemstone market (circa 2010), it does not share the long archaeological or mythological legacy that classic red jasper carries. Traditional varieties of red jasper — found worldwide in countries like India, Brazil, the USA, Russia, Madagascar, and more — have been used since ancient times for tools, amulets, seals, and ceremonial objects. However, Red Creek Jasper’s recent discovery means its “history” is mainly commercial and artisanal rather than ancient or cultural.

In metaphysical and crystal-healing circles, Red Creek Jasper is attributed to many of the same grounding and protective qualities associated with classic jasper: it is believed to bring balance, relaxation, emotional stability, and inner calm. It is described as a stone that supports compassion, self-discipline, tranquility, and protection from negative energies; some also ascribe to it benefits against environmental stressors and for improving well-being.
